i've been watching anime since i was a little girl, with my father bringing home dvds for us to watch. the one i remember most vividly was seargant frog, which i'm pretty sure was my first time seeing gay people (tamama, who was coincidentally my favorite) but i didn't understand it at the time. my first introduction to yaoi was (unfortunately) season 19 of south park. now, i didn't watch the show at the time, but everybody and their mother was talking about it so i kinda picked it up from there. it wasn't until the game south park: the fractured but whole released that i actually got to witness any of this. and boy, did i love it. i thought it was the coolest thing ever, i even bought the game last year. but yeah. seeing two boys kiss definitely flipped a switch in my brain.
my first actual bl was sasaki and miyano. i saw people on tiktok recommending it, and i decided to give it a try. it's really cute... i'm glad that was my first bl and not super lovers or whatever. i wanted to watch more bl but i didn't know where to look, since the websites i used didn't have any sort of tagging system from what i remember. after moving through a couple websites, sifting through their tags, and looking through pinterest fujoshis' recs i now have read and watched enough bl to not be a poser, i think.
now that i have monthly trips to the book store, i've been buying bl without my parents knowing. the very first bl i ever bought was i cannot reach you. the story is cute, the first few volumes don't contain any spice, and the cover is innocuous enough to not signal anything to my homophobic family, so i went for it. and i'm glad i did. now i can buy even more bl manga and fill up my shelves until there's no more room!!!
i love being a fangirl. i love being a fujoshi. i don't think it's dirty for me to enjoy gay romance at all, especially since i'm gay myself. fujolife is forever!!!
